The district: what to do on holiday in Loano and surroundings

Loano, a typical Ligurian town on the West Riviera, overlooks the sea and is protected by an arch of mountains behind it, for this reason it enjoys a particularly favorable climate, characterized by temperate summers and short winters with mild temperatures.

The tourist offer is very wide. Loano has beautiful beaches, a healthy climate and excellent agri-food products. It offers many opportunities of cultural interest (exhibitions, conferences, festivals and parties) and sports (water, bike, trekking in the first place).

In the immediate vicinity of Loano it is possible to visit towns of equally historical and cultural value, such as Pietra Ligure, Finale Ligure, Albenga, Alassio, Noli, Varigotti, Borgio, Laigueglia, Balestrino, Giustenice.

The staff of the Riviera Palace is constantly available to its guests to offer information about excursions, appointments of interest, activities taking place in the area. The must of this beautiful territory is shown below.

The villages: Verezzi, Triora, Dolceacqua

Since the nineteenth century, the West Ligurian has been the favorite destination for English and Americans, in love with both the “Riviera dei Fiori” and its hinterland. A charm destined to never fade away, which starts from Ventimiglia up to Genoa offering incredible views.

Among these we remember Verezzi,

Saracen village characterized by stone houses set on the ills and location of the prestigious Theater Festival.

Dolceacqua,

so beautiful that it is the subject of numerous paintings by the French impressionist Claude Monet.

Triora,

country of witches, marred in the sixteenth century by a long and dramatic process. In short, a place with a truly timeless charm.

Finalborgo

Finalborgo is one of the most beautiful medieval villages in Italy. A jewel a few steps from the sea that enchants with its atmosphere of the past. Its name comes from Burgum Finarii, a borderland (ad fines) at the time of the Roman Empire. It lived its heyday under the marquisate of the Del Carretto family between the 14th and 16th centuries and subsequently under the Spanish domination. It is still enclosed within well-preserved medieval walls interspersed with semicircular towers and is the epicenter of the prestigious summer event “Journey to the Middle Age”.

The protected sea area of Bergeggi,

the wonderful island of Bergeggi is a small naturalistic paradise, which the Ministry of the Environment has decided to protect since 2007. Only eco-compatible activities are allowed in the protected stretch of sea such as canoeing, the exploration of the marine caves, swimming or scuba diving. All excursions are organized in collaboration with the very active local section Proloco.

The caves of Toirano

A day in the prehistory by visiting the complex of the caves of Toirano. Discovered in the 1950s by a group of local speleologists, they are visually spectacular and contain the most conspicuous cave bear bone remains (Ursus Spelaeus) from all over Europe. Inside the rock rooms there are also testimonies dated about 12 million years ago of the presence of the prehistoric man who probably used them for ritual purposes. The visit is also ideal for families with children.

The cliffs of Finale Ligure

Finale is the Ligurian capital of sport outdoor: from mountain biking to beach volleyball, from paragliding to speleology. Its strong point however are the limestone cliffs that make it a point of reference for climbers from all over Europe. Those who are not inclined to climbing can visit the cliffs by walking through the many paths walking into the woods up in the hinterland.

The Alassio Wall

Between the years 50s and 60s coinciding with the economic boom, Alassio became a destination for fashionable tourism just like Sanremo and Portofino. In that period the initiative of the Alassio Wall was born, conceived by the painter Mario Berrino together with the American writer Ernest Hemingway: a monument composed of decorated ceramic tiles that bear the signatures of the famous people who stayed in the little town. Linked to the Wall is also the Summer beauty contest Miss Muretto.
